HOW IS THIS TOEFL BOOK DIFFERENT?
This TOEFL book is different because it uses an integrated vocabulary learning system called recycling. Recycling is simple. Each exercise is divided into four quizzes. Quiz 1, a multiple-choice vocabulary quiz, introduces ten new words. Next, you will do Quiz 2. Quiz 2 is a sentence-completion quiz based on the ten words in Quiz 1. Next, you will do Quiz 3, a spelling quiz. The speaker on the CD will say the same ten words in turn. You will then have ten seconds to spell each word by saying it and typing it. Finally, you will do Quiz 4. Quiz 4 is a 60-word typing test based on the ten new words you have been recycling through Quizzes 1, 2 and 3, plus words, phrases and idioms recycled from previous exercises.

Format for the TOEFL educational program:
1: Listening Comprehension 35 minutes 50 questions
2: Structure and Written Expression 25 minutes 40 questions
3: Reading Comprehension &. Vocab. 55 minutes 60 questions

All of the questions in the TOEFL will be multiple choice. Each question will have four answers from which to choose.

Section 1: Listening Comprehension - In this section, your ability to respond to and understand spoken English will be tested. A tape recording of a series of dialogues and short talks will be played for you. You will then have to choose the best answer based on the spoken questions.

Section 2: Structure and Written Expression - This section will test your knowledge of the structure and grammar of the English language. The items in this section will include a number of sentences which contain errors. You will be required to find the mistakes and correct them by choosing the right answer. Other sentences will be incomplete. For these, you must choose the answers that correctly complete the sentence.

Section 3: Reading Comprehension   and Vocabulary  - The Reading Comprehension  section will have several short paragraphs. You must read the paragraphs and then answer questions which will be based upon what you have just read. In a recent examination, there were 60 questions in this section.

However, the exercises in some sections are "graded" according to difficulty - with easier tests being followed by more difficult ones. Thus, it is my belief that intermediate students too can very much benefit from its contents! The book has also to some extent been arranged thematically, and has exercises that are interrelated. Additionally, there is towards the back of the book a vocabulary game. Hence, teachers should also find this work very useful - especially in the classroom...
